Social Media Professionalism: How Brands Should Behave Online

Your Facebook page is often your shop window, office and customer service desk at once. Here is how to make it look and act professional.

Phone with chat and like icons – social media professionalism

For many brands in Bangladesh, social media is the main shop. Customers judge the whole business by how the page looks and how it replies. Professionalism online does not need a big budget — it needs consistency and respect.

Complete your profile

  • Clear brand name and logo, the same on every platform.
  • Phone number, address or outlet locations, and opening hours.
  • Website link and a short, honest description of what you sell.
  • Return, exchange and delivery information in a pinned post or highlight.

Show prices and real photos

Write the price in the post. Use real photos of the actual product, with a note when colours may vary. Customers appreciate honesty, and it saves your team hundreds of repeated messages.

Reply fast, reply politely

Aim to reply within a few hours during business hours. Use the customer’s name, answer the actual question and avoid one-word replies like “inbox” or “check page”. Saved replies are fine, as long as they still sound human.

Handle criticism in public with care

Do not delete critical comments unless they are abusive. Reply calmly, apologise where needed and offer to solve the problem privately. Other customers are watching how you behave.

Keep a consistent tone and look

Use the same colours, fonts and style of language. Decide whether your brand speaks formally or casually, in Bangla, English or both — and stick to it.

Avoid common mistakes

  • Copying other brands’ photos or content.
  • Exaggerated claims and fake “limited stock” pressure.
  • Posting nothing for weeks, then flooding the page.
  • Arguing with customers or posting their personal details.
  • Buying followers or fake reviews.

Measure what matters

Followers are less important than reply time, the share of messages that become orders, and what customers say in reviews. Professionalism shows up there.

Brand professionalism across website, social media and communication is one of the seven areas Review Mark assesses for the Brand Excellence Certificate.
